2008 Academy Awards
It's been quite some time since I last posted, the real world has really intruded into my blogging habits. Without further delay here are my picks for this years Academy Awards. In previous years, I've batted about 500 on these picks, so take this list as personal preference rather than predicted winners:
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis - There will be Blood
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men
Best Actress: Marion Cotillard - La Vie en Rose
Best Supporting Actress: Amy Ryan - Gone Baby Gone
Best Animated Feature: Persepolis
Achievement in Art Direction: Sweeny Todd
Best Cinematography: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Best Costume Design: Elizabeth: The Golden Years
Best Director: P.T. Anderson - There Will be Blood
Best Documentary feature: No End in Sight
Best Documentary Short: La Corona
Achievement in Film Editing: No Country for Old Men
Best Foreign Film: The Counterfeiters
Best Make-up: Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End
Best Original Score: Atonement
Best Original Song: That's How you Know - Enchanted
Best Picture: There will be Blood
Best Short - animated: I Met the Walrus
Best Short - live action: Le Mozart des Pickpockets
Best Sound Editing: Ratatouille
Best Sound Mixing: Ratatouille
Best Visual Effects: Pirates of the Caribbean - At world's end
Best Screenplay - adapted: Away From Her
Best Screenplay - original: Juno
I'm sure that the marked lack of "Juno" nods on the list is probably going to put a crimp in the accuracy, but as much as I liked the film is was too cute and fluffy to really have any lasting effect on me.
If you haven't seen the trailers for these films, Apple was kind enough to post them all in their Oscar section here so you can check them out.
And here are a couple Ecards that I thought were pretty good:
